i could never get any backup utility to work -- i have an iomega external
drive for storage, but it never worked and i could never get tech support or
a backup software to be compatible -- so is this now completely obsolete?
how can i know what facilities on the internet to trust for storing backup on
the internet? or is there something in my computer (windows XP Home edition)
that will do this on the iomega? thanks for help.

What kind of Iomega device are we talking about? A ZIP drive, JAZ drive, or some tape drive?

How big are the backup files?

CD-RW drives are one possible way to go. Several backup utilities now can
"span" CDs.

Since you don't state what kind of Iomega drive it is, it's difficult
to advise you. However, there are many different software packages
that support a wide range of external devices. Iomega likewise has
backup software that should work with your drive whichever type it is.

Windows XP Home arrives with no back up function. You may be able to locate
it on the installation CD. However, some manufacturers didn't include it.
You can download the Windows XP back up here:
http://www.myscacc.org/Links.htm Scroll down to the second cell on the left
column. I have used it to back up to Iomega devices. It really doesn't care
what the device is.

Slow, though. I'd probably use NTBackup to backup to a file, either directly
to the Iomega if possible, or just copy it over afterwards.
