Where the X Close Document in the Upper Right of 2007?

For 10+ years, since I've been running Windows, I close all
applications and all documents within applications using the X in the
upper right of the screen. I recently installed the latest version of
Word and cannot find the X.

Can somebody tell me were I go to put the X back.

To be clear, I'm not talking about the X that closes Word. I'm
talking about the X that closes the current document.

It's right under the X that closes Word.

You need to change how your applications display in the Task Bar. Go to the
Office Button, select the Options button (Word Options, PowerPoint Options)
and then select Advanced. Clear the checkmark from Show all windows in the
Taskbar. (Should be in the Display section.)

Now, you can close the last document and the application will remain open.
(Excel already does this without modifications.)

You don't know how embarrassing it is to have to ask a question
because you don't understand something about an app, then know so
little you don't understand the answer you get. But, here I am . . .

The word Office on the upper right is the only "Office Button" I can
find. When I click it the box to the left of it pops up. I can't
find an 'options button,' 'advanced' or 'Show all windows . . .'

Hi Jim

The so-called Office button is the big round silver button with the office
logo in the top left corner of the application, north west of the Home tab.
It looks like decoration or branding, not a button, and it's not labelled in
any way (although if you hover your mouse over it for about 10 minutes it
will display a tooltip). So anyone can be forgiven for not recognizing it as
a button. But it is a button. Click and ye shall see.

Hope this helps.

Shauna,

I guess that's Word 2007's equivalent of having a Windows Start button that
doesn't say start, and a Windows logo that doesn't look like a window but
like multicolored chicklets.
