In XP I had fax console. Where is it in Vista. I have been all through the
program files and don't see it. Does this self install with the installation
of Vista, or must I add it from the installation DVD.
There also seems to be something called windows fax and scan, but Ican't
find that either.
Please advise

I don't know... I have Home Premium.... ;-(

In XP, it was one of the Windows extras..

I'd look in
Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features -
Turn Windows Features on or off

I allways used the fax program in XP and needless to say I was quite upset
when I found out it wasn't included in any with Vista OS except the
Professional series.

Vista does not recognise a number of printer software such as a fax so
rather than pay 100's of dollars for the upgrade I searched and found a
compatible program

I finally found a Vista compatible Fax program for about $30 called Snappy
Fax 4.0 you can try it for free for 30 days before purchasing a license a
full working version that is go to http://www.snappysoftware.com/

Windows Fax and Scan should be listed in the top list of programs on the Start
Menu > All Programs. Or type Windows Fax and Scan in the Start Search box above
the Start Orb, right click on the entry at the top and select "Open file
location": You can also right click and select "Pin to Start Menu".

C:\Windows\System32\WFS.exe

Why isn’t Fax included in Vista Basic or Premium? Each manufacturer
determines bundling packages based on a marketing strategy. This is a
common practice in the entertainment industry such as cable TV. The
practice is designed to entice you to buy the next greater level. You also
have to consider the problem of offering a feature, making sure it’s totally
compatible and then having to offer support, all free. Keep in mind, we are
talking about a profit making company. Lastly, FAX is not part of an
operating system. Unbundling makes sense.
