Where is the 'Replication' newsgroup?

I am starting to investigate whether or not replication may be useful for an
Access 2000 application I am developing and have already found several useful
threads by simply doing a search on all the Access Database discussion
groups. Some of these threads have made reference to a 'Replication'
newsgroup, but I can see no sign of a group with that name here on the
Microsoft Office Online website.

Does this Replication newsgroup still exist? If so, where can I find it?

Thanks, Doug.

Your link shows that there are two separate newsgroup repositories. The
interface is identical and both are hosted by Microsoft, but the logo in the
top left corner says 'Microsoft Office Online' in one case and 'msdn' in the
other.

I find this rather confusing. Why does Microsoft not put all its Access
newsgroups in one place?

Afraid I have no idea.

The actual issue to me is why Microsoft bothers with the web interface!

Douglas,
I would guess that nearly 100% of Windows users already have a web browser
installed on their PCs. That's why MS has a web interface and that's why I
access the newsgroups via the web. It's the easy and obvious option.

Some years ago, I looked briefly at a free newsgroup reader software package
called Forte Agent but it wasn't immediately obvious how it would enhance my
user experience, so it has long since been deleted from my PC. Perhaps I
never really gave it a chance...

What reader do you use? In what way is it better than just using Internet
Explorer?

I use Outlook Express, which, like Internet Explorer, comes free with
Windows. (it's called Mail in Vista). It may not be the best newsreader, but
it does the trick.

Simply point to msnews.microsoft.com

Doug,
You are right. Outlook Express does look like a slicker way to work with
newsgroups. I use Outlook 2007 as my normal email client, so I would use
Outlook Express exclusively for newsgroups. This reply has come via OE...

Thanks for the advice.

There are 3rd-party products available to let you access newsgroups through
Outlook.

Using a proper news reader is a *much* easier method than through
any of the clumsy web interfaces that have been built over the years
for newsgroups. If you've never used a proper newsreader, you'd
likely not know that, but it is a *much* better user experience than
web-based Usenet interfaces.

I use xNews, and would recommend avoiding Outlook Express, or any
combined email/news client. News reading is a different animal than
email and conflicts with it in many regards.
