I have recently started a new job and have a lot to
learn. I have been reading a couple of books to help with
this process.

Environment is WIN2000 SP4 Domain Controllers and WIN2000
SP4 and WIN XP SP1a workstations.

One thing that is not so clear is where is the Group
Policy Container? Or, why is it empty?

I know that a GPO is really two parts. The one part is
the Group Policy Template and this informaion is stored in
the SYSVOL share - which I can open to see. I can also
use adsiedit or ldp to see this information. The other
part is the Group Policy Container. If I use ldp or
adsiedit to look for this I can find the cn=Group-Policy-
Container but there is nothing in it. Even though I have
several GPOs at different levels.

What am I missing?

Are you looking at
CN=Group-Policy-Container,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=forestroot in the
Schema?

The Group Policy Container which contains the AD portion of the GPOs is in
the Domain container for your domain, under the System container. The
distinguished name (and hence the 'location') is at
CN=POLICIES,CN=SYSTEM,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM.

If you look at the distinguishedname attribute of the container you are
looking at in LDP or ADSIEDIT it should tell you which one you are
referencing. Which one are you concerned about?
