Where is the Business Content manager db? Is it access or sqlserve

I would love to write my own queries against the database, as well as modify
some of the 'standard' choices for several of the canned options

It's a pure SQL server.

Run the query against the server\MicrosoftSmlBiz instance or
server\Microsoftbcm instance. You may want to run SVRNETCN utility to enable
its disabled protocols as well. I do this all the time.

Modifying choices is not supported, but you can do it. It will be supported
in BCM 2007 that is not yet available.

Be sure that you run the BCM V2, not V1. There were a lot of changes since
V1.
