Where is "Sharing ans Secority ...." entry?

Don J

I am running Windows XP Home Edition

All discussions that I have read for sharing folders on the XP System refer
to a "Sharing and Security ..." item on the right-click menu for the folder.
Where is the "Sharing and and Security ..." item in my System? I saw it
once (I think) a long time ago.

Don J,

In XP Home you can see this item and this tab _only_in_Safe_Mode_, when
log on as Administrator.

In XP Pro you could change the Folder Settings for that.

You can use the Windows XP command-line utility Cacls.exe instead.

How do you set "Safe Mode"? I've set it during boot up, which dramatically
changes the display, but "Sharing and Security ...." is still missing. I
have "Win'XP Home" running on two systems. "Sharing and Security ...." does
appear on one, but only one, of them.

Did you login to the built in Administrator account?

How do you log onto "Build" in Administrator Account? I don't see any
reference to it in "Control Panel>User Accounts".

For XP Home when you start in safe mode the Administrator account should
appear on the Welcome Screen.

How do you start in safe mode? How do you enter the administrator account
on the welcome screen?

1) I start in Safe Mode and it makes a very dramatic change in the
presentation of the desktop.

2) I don't have any account on my screen when I boot up.

Restart your computer, after the BIOS screen flashes start pressing the
F8 key repeatedly until a menu comes up, select Safe Mode.

It looks differently because your specific video driver isn't loaded and
the resolution is most likely less than what you're used to.

Restart computer, as the BIOS screen disappears repeatedly tap the F8 key
until the advanced options menu appears. Highlight Safe Mode, press enter.

You don't. The Administrator account should appear on the Welcome Screen.

I'm a bit unclear here. Above you asked how to get into safe mode but this
suggests you have started in safe mode. So which is it?

And yes the display is different in safe mode. For one thing it displays
"Safe Mode" at all four corners of the screen. Only a basic set of drivers
are loaded in safe mode, including for the graphics display.
2) I don't have any account on my screen when I boot up.

More info needed here. Do you get a Welcome Screen? Normally the Welcome
Screen is displayed and one choice would be the "Administrator". What do
you see?

Is your system setup for auto login?

Don J

To get into Window I've tapped the Administrator Icon on bootup. What do I
do now? There is no "Sharing and Security ...." entry when I right click a
folder on the desktop.

There is no "Outlook Express" item on the desktop. Is this normal?

Don't know if the system is set up for "Auto Login".
