i've upgraded to windows xp. Now some older games and
programs don't run. They all ran under win 98 and ms-dos
7, but now my computer doesn't seem to have ms-dos
anymore. I can't find a download on microsoft.com. Where
to find it? is it possible to have both win xp and 98 on
my computer?

Hi

There is no 'DOS' with Win XP. You 'may' be able to run the programs via
Compatibility Mode:

Programs>Accessories>Program Compatibility Wizard.

Try start menu \ all programms \ accessories \ comand prompt. This should
give you a DOS type window from where you can use DOS comands.

It is possible to have different operating systems on you computer but you
need a partition utility suach as system comander.

If you had copied your W98 partition to another one, giving you 2
W98's, and then Upgraded 1 of them, XP would have created a
boot.ini with

"Microsoft Windows XP (Home or Pro)' ,
"Microsoft Windows 98" and
"MSDOS" (W98=DOS 7.0, Win98SE =DOS 7.1, I think)

as menu choices. If it wasn't smart enough to find the second W98,
you could add it to Boot.ini.

If you're still FAT32, you can get DOS back by SYSing C: from
a W98 startup disk. Otherwise, you have a lot of changes to make,
and The knowledge Base will help you, but very quickly, from MKBA 283433
'If you want to start multiple operating systems, install each operating system
in a different partition in the following order:
1.. Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows
Millennium Edition (Me)
2.. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
3.. Microsoft Windows 2000
4.. Microsoft Windows XP '
If you do not want to start the computer in all the operating systems that are
listed,
skip the ones that you do not need.'

If you do it in any other order, the MBR gets overwritten by the last one
installed,
and so the others won't load.

You Do Not need any third party programs if you do the install(s) in the
correct order.
