Hi --
I DO use Windows Update. I just don't install from there. I
follow the links for each update to the bulletin, read the whole
thing, download the whole file from the links provided, wait a little
while to see if update problem questions show up in the groups, and
then, finally, install the updates.
PITA. And then I usually get behind, cuz I've taken this notion
in my 50's to go to law school and it's about killing me.
Thanks so much for your help. Between you and one other expert,
I found the link to Q831167. I think our posts crossed in the mail.
Glad to know it's installed.
But -- I've been known to create empty folders in the updates
section of the Registry so that Windows Update "thinks" it doesn't
have to offer me updates I'm sure I don't want. ;-) Pretty sneaky,
eh?
Does your javascript command merely read the names of the
registry folders? Or where does it get its information?
PS: Still have shell-autorestart problems. Driving me nuts.
And school starts again Monday.

|(Oh, jeez!) It means you've already /got/ 831167 installed, Fishy!
|
|I know we've covered this before but... Please rely on Windows Update to
|identify the updates and patches you need instead of picking & choosing ones
|you /think/ you need. AFAIK you have WinXP configured to download and
|install such updates automatically. See...
