Where does the ink go?

I can print borderless photos with my Canon i865.
With the borderless setting, the printer must print at least partly beyond
the edge of the paper to ensure complete coverage, so what happens to the
ink that goes over the edge?
Will I end up with a coating of ink in the printer, if so would this
eventually contaminate the paper as it feeds through?
Anyone had problems due to borderless printing?

Thanks
Fred

Look on the inside of the printer right in front of the head, or right
underneath at the ink path. You'll notice a sponge IN the floor that runs
all the way down from side to side. The sponge is easy 13 inches long and it
looks to be about 1 inch wide. It's a "moderate usage" printer, so the ink
should be able to dry or evaporate over time. I'm not exactly sure about
your printer as mine is a i900d. I think they are somewhat the same
internally.
Hope this helps,
Joe

Yes, you`re right. I hadn`t noticed the sponge as the printers in a dark
corner. I see the plastic strip edging around the sponge is iregular in
shape, I`m wondering why that should be now.
Thanks for the info
