Dear all,

this should be easy question for you: where does outlook express store
the emails?

I need to back up friends email before I finally put SP2 on her winXP.
Since I never used OE, I dont know where on the HDD the mailboxes live.
With mozilla or any other email program its easy, but I couldnt find any
mailbox from OE. I tried searching for files that contain words or
phrases from her messages, but didnt find anything.

TIA

In Outlook Express, Click Tools, Options, Maintenance (TAB),
Store Folder (Button). That will display the data store path for the
OE profile or Identity.

Google Search:
"How do I backup Outlook Express email"

Some results:

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the
location
of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then
Start>Run>Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK
and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location
down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WindowsXP & 2K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by
default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must
enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start>Control
Panel>Folder
Options>View.

Remember, if you don't include Folders.dbx, they won't
import on the new computer. I recommend you see this:

Make sure that Show all Files is checked and then do a search for *.dbx.
That is the name of the stored files. By default they are hidden. So make
sure that show all files is checked.

I believe you can export all email via Outlook Express to a file , if
not , try looking in your folder under the Documents and Settings
folder on your hard-disk.

Use File Transfer wizard in Applications. It is ideal for transferring
emails and settings from one computer to another or simply as a backup.
Only works for Outlook Express I think. When setting the transfer wizard
choice up. use custom, files and settings and remove everything in the
listing to be transferred except outlook express.
