Where does a "Cut" worksheet go if Excel is exited?

I was Cutting a worksheet from one document and pasting it into a new book
but somehow ????, Excel was exited. Does anyone know where that worksheet is
'saved' and if I can find it.

IF ?? the workbook was saved before you exited then there would be no
problem going back to the LAST SAVE.

well, if you exit excel "normally" then it usually shows a dialog box
asking if you want the clipboard made available to other applications,
in which case you could just reopen and paste, but in the case of
program crashes, which this sounds like, you usually end up losing
everything you've done since the last save, to include clipboard
data...

The ??? meant, I don't know how it happened that the document was exited
without saving. So the cut worksheet was/is a clipboard item (that didn't
get pasted) that can't be found? Any ideas where it might be?
