It would depend partially on what application you are using.
If you have Front Page, the Front Page newsgroups would be a place to
start: http://aumha.org/nntp.htm
Otherwise search for a forum using the application you are planning to
use.
here is how I started - I created pages using Word - I saved them as .html
files - once I got savvy with layout and such I moved onto FrontPage - once
I created the text and added pics and such , FrontPage and many other apps
will show you the html code behind what you did- which taught me html.- it
is that easy - now I use Websphere Studio Homepage Builder
Some people I know use the Notepad included with windows but that
takes more knowledge of web design.
See if there is someone you know that has made a family or business
page.
You may also be able to get low cost or even free webpage classes in
your area.
Lots of luck finding "low cost or even free webpage classes" (where do you
*live*??). I've had a webpage up, using Dreamweaver, for more than a year,
and there's still nothing on it except please check in again, or some such,
in pretty colors. It takes a solid block of time away from distractions, I
think, to get a page accomplished. This looks like a good online course:
