where did my tasks go?

We use outlook 2003 and two of us are networked.
We always had a problem with viewing all the tasks on each other's computers
until a comp tech person fiddled with our delegates and
permissions...co-incidentally after that I noticed that a number of tasks
from longer than 6 mos ago seemed to have disappeared.
We usually view them through the contact (on the activities tab) or directly
on the task list by searching for them by name...any ideas where they might
have disappeared to or why we cannot view them any longer?
