I am missing the "file" tab on my toolbar (or taskbar):
Instead, it looks like this:

"Edit View Favorites Tools Help"

"File" which normally shows up before "edit" just
disappeared. Most appreciative of any help you guys can
provide.

I am missing the "file" tab on my toolbar (or taskbar):

The File Menu missing from Explorer menu (technically, it's a toolbar
band object on a rebar, but that's technical and OT).

It may have been disabled by group policy/registry.

[Pro Only]
click start -> run -> gpedit.msc
navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows
Explorer

Check the setting "Remove File menu from Windows Explorer". If it says
enabled, switch it to "Not configured". Otherwise...

[Home & Pro if above fails]
Backup/Delete the registry Value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies
\Explorer
REG_DWORD NoFileMenu

log off may be necessary (or restart of explorer at least).
