I have winxp pro and MS Office 2000.

Where is the .PST file normally stored?
Mine is on the desktop and that seems strange.

You can keep it anywhere. Normally I keep it under My Documents, so its easy
to take backup from one place

By default it's in %UserProfile\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook, but Outlook doesn't care where it is, as long as it
has write access to it.

Are you positive that the PST on your desktop is the one actually being used
by Outlook?

Yes, Brian. I went to Search and that is what comes up.

How can I change location.

I used OE for years and knew all these silly things, but am a newbie to
Outlook, even though it is 2000!

Open Outlook --> right click Personal Folders --> select Close personal
folder -> Close Outlook
Move .pst file to a new place, open outlook again and File - Open - Outlook
data file (.pst) -> locate right folder - open

If you want to move your PST elsewhere, with Outlook closed, just move it.
When you start Outlook up the next time, Outlook will complain that it can't
find your folders and allow you to browse to their new location.
