When you delete an email in Outlook, is the attachment also delete

My father in law insists that just because I have deleted an email (that
contained an attachment) that doesn't mean that the attachment got deleted.
He says the attachment could still be in my computer.

He uses Eudora. As best I can tell, what he is saying is true in Eudora,
but I don't think it works that way in Outlook.

Can anybody verify that?

Thank you,
sinclair

How about a good solid maybe?

If you saved the attachment to your hard drive, then no, it isn't deleted
when you delete the mail.

If you opened the attachment, it might still exist in your temp directory.

If you previewed the attachment in Outlook, it is likely gone.

If you never did anything with the attachment, it is gone.

All of this assumes you have also emptied your deleted items.

Obviously, if you save the attachment, it will still be on your computer if
you delete the message it was attached to. It *might* reman on your
computer if you opened the attachment. Attachments are saved and opened
from Outlook's secure temp folder; under normal circumstances, the saved
temporary file is deleted when the attachment is closed, but this doesn't
always happen. The secure temp folder is easy to empty:

Attachments remain in the Outlook Secure Temporary File folder when you exit

I didn't open the email or click on the attachment. The email was showing in
the Reading Pane.

I marked it as junk and blocked sender, then deleted the email. And then
emptied the Deleted Items Folder.

So from what you say then, that attachment is not in my computer still.

Apparently Eudora puts attachments in separate folder from email. If you
delete the email, the attachment is not automatically deleted.

When he told me I still needed to check for the attachment, I told him no
way it was still there. I decided to doublecheck but could not find anything
in Outlook Help Files.

Thank you
