when use microphone causes a cracking sound

i am using windows xp,
i have a Aopen microphone headset.
when i connect it to my computer it causes a sort of crackling sound. when i
went to the setting where you see the bar move when a sound is made even with
no sound coming from me it stays at about 10% level. there is nothing wrong
with the microphone as i tried it on another computer.

Have you tried another microphone? There may be something wrong with the
jack on your computer or the mic may not electrically match the jack.
