Hi,

When my PC is shutted down, it tries to read the floppy
disk (kind of annoying). So I was wondering, if there is a
way to know what applications or services could possibly
trying to read the floppy disk? I have run a complete
virus scan (Symantec) but nothing was found. If you have
any ideas of how I could find out what is trying to read
the floppy disk let me know. Thanks in advance for your
time and help.

You mention you were using a virus scanner. Symantec or
Virus 5.0 and above setting by default scan the floppy
drive during shut down. You can stop this by opening the
console and uncheck scan floppy on shut down.

It is not necessarilly reading a floppy. This is known as 'parking the read
head'. You do not want to power off with the read head in contact with a
floppy. Consequently, when powering off the read heads are extracted.

Does it do this in Safe Mode? If not then you could use MSCONFIG to
selectively disable startup items until you narrow down which one is doing
it.

You probably have your anti virus program set to check floppies for boot
viruses on shutdown. Look through the options of your AV prog to disable
this.
