Shall I download and install SP3 asap, or shall I better wait for
Automatic Updates to reach me?
TIA

Hello, Wait or not may not matter that much.
I was wondering if the Microsoft Update site will install what is needed per
user as opposed to the full SP3.
I did a beta download and install from the update site, about 7 days ago.
The download was 63MB as opposed to 300mb+ with the full install.
Downloaded slipstreamed and installed the full SP3 (from MajorGeeks), no
problems with either installation.
So far my units have no problems.
Hope your installation is as problem free.

The standalone does not install everything but you do download everything.
The WU experience reduces the amount of downloading but they both install
only what your system needs. A fully patched SP2 system should only require
about 65mb from the SP3 pkg. You can always delete the download file once
SP3 is installed so, other than potential download time or cost issues,
there is no difference how you do it.

Hello,
Thank you and PD43 for the information.
An aside: This is my first venture into "Clean Installing". Surprised at the
speed and ease of using this procedure, including when I was ready for
"activation", I am not positive but I believe it may have been 8 seconds or
less for Activation.
take care.

Neither. Wait at least a month before installing it and see what happens
to others. You heard what couldn't be put back together again with all
king's horses and all the king's men, right?

Alias

An Ubuntu install.

How is it possible for you to be so dumb, PA Bear?

If you want to slipstream it you will need the full 300+ MB file.

It is the exact same file as the SP3 RTM from Microsoft AND Majorgeeks.
They just don't know how to verify the MD5 checksum apparently. Even
if you're right, you must still be wrong. <shrug> It has the same
checksum of bb25707c919dd835a9d9706b5725af58.

Windiff wouldn't lie either.

SP3 will not be an Automatic Update until early summer. It will be on
Windows Updates on the 29th.
