When SP3?

Shall I download and install SP3 asap, or shall I better wait for Automatic
Updates to reach me?

It's due to be added to Windows Update on the 29th April, so you only have a
few more days to wait.

Just don't use one of the pre-releases

You can download it on Tuesday. Thus far it is very stable and no
problems on the many machines I've installed it to.

Neither. Wait at least a month before installing it and see what happens
to others. You heard what couldn't be put back together again with all
king's horses and all the king's men, right?

That was kinda my question, even though I did not ask it that way. I
expected ...enu.exe Not this long name.

I'm not using it. I'm all in favor of Tuesday getting a totally legit
copy. I paid for XP to be legal, now is not the time to cut corners.

It is the exact same file as the SP3 RTM from Microsoft AND Majorgeeks.
I have ALL of them(from microsoft, from that link AND from majorgeeks and
they are ALL the exact same.
 
Sure. One copy to my test box and one copy to a test virtual machine. But
I have not on my MacBook Pro, my wife's laptop, any of the vm's I use for
production, or the utility box in the basement. My primary box is Vista x64
so that doesn't matter.

Majorgeeks is a very reputable site. Why would you say it is dodgy?

It is the exact same file as the SP3 RTM from Microsoft AND Majorgeeks.

they are ALL the exact same.

They just don't know how to verify the MD5 checksum apparently. Even
if you're right, you must still be wrong. <shrug> It has the same
checksum of bb25707c919dd835a9d9706b5725af58.
