I'll try it again. When setting up windows mail, I get a login box that I
cannot access. It is for a login to popmail @ yahoo. It seems to be something
that was already set up. It asks for a name and password, but doesn't accept
anything I send. I tried to make a comcast account my default account instead
of a yahoo account, but when I try to send mail through Outlook, it asks for
the popmail name and password that I don't know that i have. I did get a
confirmation page for my comcast email, but when I tried to do an Outlook
email ,it aske for the popmail login again. I am trying to find out what i
need to do to remedy this. Microsoft has been no help so far. I went to the
tech support with my purchased Outlook disc in hand, but the site won't
accept my number and want's a credit card # to continue. Thanks.

popmail@yahoo isn't a valid server name. Neither are server names with
spaces in them. The correct settings for connecting to Yahoo depend on
which country's Yahoo servers you are trying to connect to, or which
Yahoo servers for a specific internet provider or specific business you
are trying to use. If you are trying to use their main yahoo.com servers,
you need to either pay extra or install an interface program.

If you prefer using Comcast, make sure you you have applied the
recent changes they have started requiring without telling their
users about this in advance:

Also, note that Outlook does not automatically get all the setting
changes you have applied under Windows Mail, so you may have
to look up the similar instructions for Outlook.

You mentioned both Outlook and Windows Mail. Which one of those two
programs do you want to use for email?

What I am trying to do is configure my email to work with certain sites such
as Craigslist. When I try to reply to someone Outlook email will come up, but
I get an error message stating "could not connect to host". I also get the
Logon to plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com. I have Vista and in my Outlook 2007 I have
Windows mail, which is telling me that it is the replacement for Outlook. I
have no probkem with using the comcast mail, but it seems that the login pop
up is interfering with the process. Thank you for your help.

For many people, Windows Mail is not a good choice as a replacement
for Outlook. Windows Mail comes at no extra cost with Vista, and
Microsoft deliberately left out some of the features they use to persuade
people to buy their extra-cost software packages including Outlook,
such as some versions of Microsoft Office.

Versions 2003 and more recent run well under Vista. However,
unless you tell them otherwise, they assume that if you run Outlook at
all, you want to make it your default email program.

You may need to make an extra effort to tell Outlook about the other
mail servers, but if you do, make sure you tell it to leave copies of any
messages it downloads on the server, or you will be unable to download
them under Windows Mail as well.

Well, this Window mail thing is driving me nuts... I think I will uninstall
what ever I install and continue with regular e-mails.... thnks you all... :)

Your problem description is confusing in that you mention both
Windows Mail and Outlook email. Those are two separate email
programs. Windows Mail is not a replacement for Outlook, it is a
replacement for Outlook Express. Outlook Express does not run
on Vista.

When you click on an email link on a web page (like Craigslist),
Vista will pop up whatever email program has been designated as
the default. You must decide whether you want to use Outlook, or
Windows Mail as your default email program.

You mentioned "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com", but that will work only if
you subscribe to a premium Yahoo Mail Plus account

Your Comcast email account will work in any email program, in
addition to its webmail access.

Your reference to "regular e-mail" probably means webmail.
Please note that POP mail existed as regular email long before
there was such a thing as webmail.
