When paragraph marks aren't...

I have gotten a large number of files someone else created
in word. When I view non-print characters, I see the
paragraph symbol at the end of each line (there are no
word-wrap paragraphs in this document). When I try the
find and replace function and use ^p, Word (2000) says it
has completed it's search and made 0 replacements. I can
remove these marks manually but Word cannot see them. I
went thru all the special characters (^l,^s, etc.) to no
avail. When I remove one of these and replace it with my
own paragraph mark (enter key) Word will see that.

Any clues what these paragraph marks that aren't really
are, and how I can replace hundreds & hundreds of them
without having to do it manually?

Suzanne,

That was the ticket. Worked perfectly and will save me a
TON of time (and may keep me from wearing out my delete
key).

If I may ask (out of curiousity rather than necessity)
just what is this ^13, and how would I find out about this
and other special codes not listed in the find & replace
box? (Other than asking you, of course.)
