When opening word the installation process begins each time

However, the install was completed years ago. There is no information as to
what it is installing, the install/configuration process completes within a
minute or so, but this continually occurs each time word is opened. Has
anyone else experienced this and if so please enlighten me.

I would recommend that you re-install your Windows Word application. From
the contract work I have done with various legal agencies, this is usually
the best fix. What may have happened is the Word files may have become
corrupt or missing over time. Re-install (make sure you don't delete your
word doc files) and you should be ok.
