When I use ctrl+alt+del, the task manager doesnt pop up. Help said to disable
the welcome screen, but it i dont want to. It used to work even with welcome
screen enabled. please help.

What is the virus/malware-status of the computer? No Task Manager is
symptomatic of virus infection. Make sure the machine is clean:

Hi,

Have you recently installed some MicroSoft updates? Since installing some a
couple of days ago, all sorts of things have stopped working. Its either
MicroSoft's way of getting us fed up with XP so we'll go out and buy the
next OS or they just screwed up the updates. I'd suggest uninstalling the
updates one by one (probably doing a reboot between each uninstall) and then
seeing if CTRL-ALT-DEL starts to work again.

You can find the uninstall folders under C:\Windows as in
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB912945$.

Good luck. I hope someone else can suggest something more concrete.
