I just recently installed windows xp pro sp3 from a brand new disk. I just
tried to do a system file check and was asked to insert my windows cd. An
error comes up stating that the wrong cd in the tray. Pronblem is that its
the same one. How can I fix this? Thanks

The windows xp pro cd came with the sp3 on the disk. is there something im
missing?

Do you have more than one optical tray? If you do, place the CD in the
other tray.

Or maybe it *is* the wrong CD... Is this the CD that came with your PC?
Is it at SP level 3 (usually they are not)? Is it a full-fledged XP
installation CD or is it a recovery CD?

Also, there is a workaround if you don't want to have to use the disk
each time you run SFC. See this page:

yes I tried both drives and yes it is the right cd. But after copying the i386 to my c drive by itself . since i could not find the reg strings stated. just with the copy of the file , when i tried it again it never asked me for a cd. it ran all they way through. so it worked anyway. thanks for your help and to sqopus too.
