When I tab in Excel, it jumps from column A to R. Why?

Pull-down:

Tools > Options > Transition and clear the Transition navagation keys box

See if this helps
 
Goto Tools > Options
Then goto the Transition TAB

Then uncheck the box labeled 'Transition Navigation Keys'
