When i eject a cd or dvd from my cd/dvd drive, Windows Explorer stops responding..

...if it (Windows Explorer that is) is currently open and examining the
contents of that drive. The whole system then freezes up and i have to
reboot. If Windows Explorer is not open or is not examining the
contents of the drive that the cd/dvd is being ejected from, its fine
and the pc does not freeze up.

This while a workaround of sorts, is not ideal as its a pain
remembering either to close Windows Explorer down or navigate to a
different drive or folder just to prevent this computer freeze from
happening, whenever i eject a cd. I shouldnt need to have to do this.
Does anyone know why this is happening and is it possible or
necessary, for that matter, to reinstall Windows Explorer to resolve
this.

Im sorry if this is posted in the wrong section. Can a mod pls advise
what section this shld be or move the post accordingly. Thanks in
advance for any help

Some applications install components that alter optical drive
processing. For example, ANYDVD, Roxio Direct-to-Disc, Nero INCD. The
problem may be not with Explorer, but rather with such a component.

You can see if such software exists on your system by going to Device
Manager and checking the Properties of your CD/DVD drive then Driver
and Driver Details, and you will see a list of items. If you can
identify one of these as belonging to some application you've
installed, you can try uninstalling that application and see if your
problem vanishes.
