Under Printer and Faxes/ File/ Server Properties it is possible to add a new
form.
I've done that and the new paper type appears under one of my printers but
not another one.
It would help a lot if I knew what is supposed to happen.
When I create a new form is it for all printers, printers that recognize the
custom type, the default printer, or what?
Thanks in advance
It's not clear whether by "form" you mean paper size, or document
template. I'll tell what I know about each (corrections, clarifications
and additions welcomed):
Custom paper sizes are specific to the printer for which they were
created, regardless of the application you used to create them.
(Footnote) It's not in fact the app that creates them. When you create a
new paper size, you are actually calling the printer's control applet.
If all your printers are the same brand and model, there may be a way to
make the new size a default for all printers, eg, you may be able to
copy the new control file to all machines.
Custom templates are specific to the application within which you
created them. It's possible to transfer some templates between
applications that belong to the same suite, but that's specific to that
suite. Read the Help.
Footnote:
If you transfer a file between machines, each of which is connected to a
different printer, the application usually reformats the file to suit
the printer it uses. (This even affects the sizes of nominally equal
fonts, BTW, so line lengths and page lengths may change.) I don't know
whether this feature can handle custom paper sizes, as I've never had
occasion to try it.
