When I am at a website and I click on a video which then downloads to Windows
Media player then runs, how can one save the video that is playing?

If the link to the video points directly to a video file (.mpg, .wmv,
....) then right click on the link and take "Save Target as ..."

Either save the file with the right click as Bernd suggested or click "file
