When Excel 2007 opens a xls file all links are changed

In my work environment we have one user who has just moved to Excel
2007 while everyone else is still using Excel 2003. When this person
opens a 2003 .xls file that contains hyperlinks, all the hyperlinks,
on all tabs, are changed. The following string is inserted into the
front of the hyperlink string replacing the http://:

file:///C:\users\frankp\Documents\Sharepoint Drafts (the original
file was on a sharepoint fwiw)

Is there some setting in excel 2007 that needs to be changed to
eliminate this annoying behavior???

My recent experiments would suggest this is a problem with the
sharepoint and not with Excel 2007.

Obviously this is not the right group to discuss that assumption but
if anyone has any insight please jump in.

The problem has been resolved.

For the record, when excel 2007 opens a file located on a sharepoint a
window opens and in this window there is a checkbox that asks
something to the effect of do you want to use a local directory. If
this box is checked all the hyperlinks are changed, if it is not
checked there is no change made to the hyperlinks.
