You can save it on disk if you want to:

The CD image file is here:

<http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...CE-B5FB-4488-8C50-FE22559D164E&displaylang=en>

The actual executable file is here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&DisplayLang=en

The second link is quite busy today so you may have to wait but try the
first link and burn it using your favorite CD/DVD burning program like
Nero or Roxio.

you have any input why they say this?

They say the .exe is smaller and yes, its 314 megs as compared to the
544 megs of the iso. But I thought SP3 was SP3? I installed the .exe
a week ago, so now I'm more confused. I ordered the SP2 cd years ago.
Kinda thought it would be nice to have SP3 on cd too and I can burn
them now, couldn't burn SP2 years ago (no burner).

I converted the ISO file to cd, and we have used it on many single pcs.

It actually says:

"DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller,
more appropriate download for individual users is now available on
Windows Update <http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com>.

The reason is to save you time. If you are updating just one PC/Laptop
then it makes sense to update via Windows Update as the download is
likely to be smaller. If, however, you an IT professional and wish to
deploy it enterprise wide then clearly the larger file is more
appropriate as each system is different from others!

If you installed SP3 from the download link I posted few days ago then
you are OK because this latest file is no different from what you have
got except the date!!.

Have you turned on the Automatic Updates feature of your system? I
think you should so that you get the necessary updates on timely basis.

Hope this helps.

I just burned the ISO and found that it contains the
WINDOWSXP-KB936929-SP3-X86-ENU.EXE file that I also downloaded. At
least its the same name and approx size. So I guess the CD is just
overhead.

It does confirm my thoughts. If you see the reply I posted to Tom a few
minutes ago. Aw heck!. I got the .exe and the ISO. Now I got both
of two worlds. Whatever works huh!!!! Thanks again.

What is an ISO download ? If saved to harddisk can you click on it and
install SP3. I'm missing something !
Fred

No, you cannot click on it and run anything. An .iso image is the
electronic copy of a cd or dvd. To use it you first burn the image to a
disk. Then you use the disk just like you would if it came from the store.

Got it, Thanks much

Use either one. Make one each way if it makes you feel more thorough. In
truth it comes out the same either way.

With the burned CD/DVD then I assume you can install SP3 on top of SP2 and
also install SP3 on a formated HD. Is this true ?
Thanks

Yes, you can upgrade XP SP2 to SP3 with it but I would let WU handle that
just as the advice on the Download Details page says.

No, you cannot use the cd to install XP SP3 to a formatted hdd. The cd does
not contain the operating system, just the upgrade to SP3.

If you want a cd to install an integrated XP SP3 you need to create a
slipstreamed cd using your XP SP2 cd and the downloaded package.

Thanks Colin
