Care to post the error message, and perhaps how you're changing the read only
attribute? We can't see your screen.

Error messge reads E:\db1.mdb
access is denied

Could it be anything to do with using office 2000 with Vista ?

Yes. It means that your security settings in Vista are set to prohibit file
changes (such as changing the file attributes) on the folder containing the
database. It's not an Access problem, it's a Vista problem - I'd suggest
asking in a Windows Vista newsgroup.

I'm having the same issue with Vista and XP. I tried to open a read-only
database on my husband's computer, which has XP, and I received the same
error message. Any suggestions?
