ACF is for recommending freeware, and ACFD is for *discussing* freeware.
But it's all kinda fluid, anyway.
Have a great day!

Thank for explaining, the 'fluidness' was the reason I asked this question.
I guess it's kind of difficult to recommend a program without starting some
kind of discussion about the pros and cons and alternatives.
And on the other hand I guess a discussion about freeware can easily result
in people recommending other programs.
I have the impression that the "discussion" groups have largely
dropped out of fashion in today's USENET. Probably as a result of
enormously improved bandwidth and associated resources negating the
perceived need to split off "discussion" as such.
Remember how 15 years ago the Unix newsreaders (rn nn) had a
"Distribution" header and at least one of them (rn?) used to warn you
that what you intended to do (i.e. "worldwide") was going to cost
someone "hundreds if not thousands of dollars" if you insisted.
Addendum: "the German newsserver" doesn't even recognise ACFD now!

FWIW, I don't think we'd have a hell of a lot of *discussion* over here
at ACFD is we didn't occasionally recommend programs ;-).
Have a great day!
