[OT?] How do you feel about web-interfaces?

Hi acf (I hope this is not off-topic),

what do you think about web-interfaces?

If a program is of special interest (not another notepad :) would it be
OK for you to install a program comming with an included webserver? Or,
how many of you already run apache, myserver, etc.?
Do you have concerns about running a program in your browser?

I admid that till now I only wrote programs (C++) for personal use, so I
only created command-line-tools, because I did not want to waste time
beside the algorithm ;-) Now I am looking for the most efficient way
(beside TCL/TK) to make them userfriendly - html+java-script+cgi seems
to be very effective to me, but what does the user think about
webinterfaces?

Sorry, if this may be off-topic (-> acfd?)

I don't think it's OT.
I use POPfile ( http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ ), which uses an
internet browser to handle all user settings.
I've found the interface to be intuitive since I've become so accustomed
to "web" interfaces.
I'm sure there's other programs that behave the same way. I just don't
recall any that I've used.

I like them; the ones I've seen have been very straightforward and
useful. I prefer that there also be command line switches and/or text
config files to handle configuration as well, though. And the port the
lil webserver listens on should be configurable, too, IMO.

I like web interfaces for configuration, one of the best examples is the
SWAT interface to Samba.

What I hate is when the idiot designer puts the requirement for having a
web server running to do the job. If they don't know how to implement
HTML parsing and generation they should stick to using Logo.
