What's the Deal with www2

Lately it seems like I've been seeing more and more domain names with a URL
that begins with "www2"

Why is that? Is there something special about having a "www2" subdomain?

No it's just a sub domain, there isn't even anything special about the www
subdomain, it's just comonly used.
