what's the deal with cookies?

I know this is likely a very basic question but here goes....
Is it OK to send the cookies in my temp file to the recycle bin? Do I have
to sort them or can I delete them all? I'm running XP Professional.

Cookies are a way a website keeps track of your preferences and sometimes,
even your password.
They can be deleted or not even allowed and most sites will still
"function".
I would suggest "SHIFT+DELETE" to bypass the Recycle Bin.. Or better yet -
use the internal tools in IE to erase them.

OK...now you've lost me on the internal tools in IE....haven't a clue what
you mean. And what are you doing up so late? Can I delete all of the cookies
and still have things work ok?

Late is relative to where you live. This is a worldwide
distributed/accessible newsgroup.
Late is also relative to who you are.

Open Internet Explorer.
Across the top you see "File" "Edit" "View" "Favorites" "Tools" "Help"
Click on Tools..
Click on Internet Options..
Make sure you are under the GENERAL tab..
Look for and use the "Delete Cookies" button.

Cookies are worthless unless you don't know your passwords and such to
certain sites.
