No Kenneth..and stop trying to shift the focus. I have called that number
and Bellsouth informed me I would be charged 11 cents per minute for my
so-called (as you allege) "disguised call to India"

When my paper bill arrives I'll scan it and post it. Now can you do the
same?

I DID make the call. I DID check the charges. It was a call to Rochester,NY
at 11 cents/min..unless now you are going to contend that that low rate is
the going rate for calls to India?

Case Closed......you were misinformed Kenneth and then you lied. Show us
PROOF you were charged international rates to India when you called a
Rochester,NY tel #. I can...but sir, can Y O U ???

.you were misinformed Kenneth and then you lied.

Hi Charlie,

Might I have been misinformed? Certainly, and I will have my
Assistant check past bills tomorrow to find out.

If I was misinformed (as were you) by the folks in India, I
will certainly post that here.

I am curious though about your perception that I lied.

Might you quote something in my posts that you believe I
lied about?

Sincere thanks,

Being a big fan of Symantec's products, you really should try the
corporate version of their AV software. Some refer to it as Norton for
adults.

Thanks for the suggestion Bill but I just bought a 3 user license for NIS
2006 and it is working very satisfactorily for us on our home network.

Hi Bill,
I gotta tell you (as a professional shill myself) this NIS 2006 is lean and
mean. It is by far the easiest set-and-forget internet security suite I
have ever used from Symantec.

"set-and-forget internet security"...

so you *like* having a false sense of security, then?

Hi again,

My Assistant just checked, and, indeed, we were charged
domestic rates for the call in August despite having been
told otherwise three times.

All the best,

TY Kenneth for checking on that. I have to say in my 2 decades on Usenet
rarely can I have a spirited debate with one as courteous yet formidable as
you...

Carry on..have a great weekend...

Hi Charlie,

You have been most entertaining...

Might you have a reaction to the other (and IMO more
important) part of my original post?:

"Then, I noticed that my NAV 2004 had "30 days" left before
expiration.

I had a few minutes and so (absentmindedly) clicked to
renew.

I paid my money, and then was amazed to see that my renewal
will expire a year from the date of my purchase, rather than
a year from its actual expiration date.

That sleazy practice simply means that I paid last year for
eleven months."

All the best,

C

Charlie

I cannot comment on that since every time I have renewed a Symantec
subscription it has extended from the original expiration date. I would say
that if this was a common error that thousands of posts would have already
been generated and Symantec would have long ago fixed it if in fact this
matter truly ever existed.

Frankly Kenneth based on your certainty that Symantec also purposely posted
a disguised international LD call I am more than just a tad inclined to
think this claim of yours as well is based on the same kind of "logic"

IOW I think it is cockpit error on your part.

Hi Charlie,

You might be interested in knowing that I received refunds
on three or four copies of NAV from Symantec precisely
because of the renewal issue that I have mentioned.

Here, with the precision you seem to require, are the
details:

My product announced with a dialog box that it was to expire
in 30 days. I clicked to renew. I was then given the choice
to renew or upgrade. I chose the latter.

I then discovered that the expiration date was one year from
the date of the upgrade, rather than one year from the date
of expiration of the product I had prior.

That happened to me three or possibly four times on
different systems.

When I noticed the expiration date on one of the systems, I
called Symantec, spoke to one of my many friends in India,
and was told that indeed, because I had chosen to upgrade, I
had lost the last thirty days of my license on the prior
product.

I believe that be a sleazy business practice.

(You can start your name calling now.)

All the best,

If you don't want to read discussions about anti-virus programs,
vendors, and practices, then you came to the wrong group. If it was this
thread in particular you object to, then just don't read it.

BTW this is USENET not AMERICA - but you can still say whatever you want
to. :))

You should be aware (if you want to "get back" at Symantec), that if
you can get your hands on an older version of NAV (say, 2001 or 2002)
that you can re-active it's 1-year definition update service as often
as you want, year after year, for no cost, if you simply delete it
completely from your computer before you re-install it.

I keep a copy of the entire NAV 2002 CD on my hard drive so I can run
it from the hard drive without needing the original CD. That makes
for a very fast re-installation.

It has been confirmed that even older version of NAV are designed to
download and run the latest virus detection engines and definition
files, so there is no fear that they are somehow inferior to more
recent versions of NAV.

Howdy,

I believe that is called "theft of service."

I have no interest in stealing from them, but I certainly
will not allow them to steal from me.

I'd like to know "why?" As an act of revenge? If someone tries, or
demonstrates a willingness, to steal from you, what is wrong with beating
them at they're own game? What's wrong with stealing from a guilty party?
