Three have served me well. You'll get a lot of opinions. I want to preface
and say that
1) You have some spyware on your box at all times no matter what you use.
2) Some spyware is essential to running some programs at times so not all
"spyware" behaves badly but it can do some attorcious things.
3) The spyware scanners/booters and the pre-emptive guards that kick out the
bad guys at the rope line are "complementary." It's not a Superbowl or
World Series with clear winners.
4) I listed MSFT AS (Antispy) they adapted from Giant but my objections to
it (it's a fairly stable Beta--are that it uses to much CPU average 25-35000
clock cycles and realy annoying to kick off spyware you have to close all IE
browser windows first but I use it--it also "guards" to a degree.

Personally, although I'm shy I'm going to tell you how I really feel about
CW Shredder. I hate it and I hate every molecule of space anyone has taken
putting it's files before my eyes. I've never needed it; I never will.
NAV/NIS 2005 and the others are doing some spyware scanning now. Symantec
has told me they are working with others to rename some spyware to better
context it, particularly when it has shades of grey.
