What would cause #Error in simple query?

I have a very simple query. I have:

Expr1: Right([manufacturer],10)

that's it. I know there is data. I just get:

#error


Just gives #error. left also gives #error.

What am I doing wrong? Is Access broken or have I just forgotten how
to do string manipulation? I hope it is the latter.

I've also had trouble all of a sudden where I cannot import text files
(CSV). I used to could. Just hangs. Maybe it's all connected?

Could be a problem with broken references.

When you are manipulating strings, you will get the #error in a
particular field cell if field is a null. You can get around your issue
by making any Null fields into zero length fields.

For example, you can make your expression: Right(Nz([manufacturer]),10)
