what is the equivilant version of vista if you're moving from xp
professional? i'm trying to find out what a corporate client (500
users + ) would do as we need to certify our s/w on 'vista' and i'm
not sure which one to go for.

As XP Pro includes domain membership your upgrade choices are Business,
Enterprise or Ultimate Editions
Chances are for corporate customer under volume licensing this will be
Enterprise Edition.

I'd recommend you stay with XP Pro. I don't see any advantages at all of
Vista to a corporate user. There are lots of bundled "extras" for a
home-user, but these are all just flab for a corporate user. Stick with XP -
it does everything Vista can do, except faster and doesn't hassle the user.

The poster does not need to "stay with XP Pro" - his enquire was about what
a client of his is likely to have as he needs to test his software he is
developing on the Vista edition his client is likely to have.
Also in response to your post the Business and Enterprise Editions do not
include many of the home user extras as you would expect from a business
version of a product.

"we need to certify our s/w on 'vista'"
That does not say anything about upgrading.
Any major Windows computer user should be doing this or have completed
this since at the very least windows XP will probably not be available
in several months and also the organization may need to support
clients with Windows Vista.
Of course there are a host of other possibilities as well.

I'd stay with XP unless forced otherwise. Vista requires more
hardware to do the same task and has numerous driver and 3rd party app
problems. Read a few posts in this forum and you'll see numerous
times where MVPs say things like "a poorly designed third party app is
not M$'s problem", "check the manufacturer's web site for new
drivers", etc etc etc.

All you get with Vista is a cooler looking UI.......at great expense.

Not really.

Updating drivers to Vista compatible is not a big deal...well maybe for
a loser like you it is.

So you don't really know anything at all about Vista, huh?
So why are you here?
Try posting a truthful answer for once or else just STFU!

Maybe you should read the original post before you go off ranting against
Vista. (Or even just read the other posts before you dive in - where another
poster made the same mistake as you)
The OP was not asking about moving to Visa he needs to test HIS software
against a Vista edition that a customer of His may use.
Next time engage brain before pressing key with finger.
