I looking to overhauling my system to AMD 64 tech, mobo
and all, and would like to know which version of
WindowsXP I will need to do that. I currently have WinXP
Home Ed. with the SP2, v.2149.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.

Either Windows XP Home or XP Pro will work fine.

Your version of XP (32 bit) will run on the AMD64 (I'm using it now). The 64
bit version is available for download from microsoft as
a BETA version. It's free (for now), but that's because MS is still working
on getting the "bugs" out. There is a list of available 64 bit drivers from
various hardware vendors available on the AMD website, and some of those
drivers are also still in the BETA stage.

Using the current 32 bit OS, you won't get to take full advantage of the 64
bit technology, and will not realize the full performance potential of the
AMD64, but you maintain stability. The AMD 64 still give you excellent
performance because of the way it handles memory (on board controller and
additional memory "pathways") plus the hypertransport link.

Personally, I'm waiting for the official release of the 64 bit OS.
