What upgrade processor?

Gavin

I currently have a PII 400mhz CPU working on a Biostar M6TBA mobo - which
has a 440BX chipset.

I would like to know how far up the CPU evolutionary chain I can upgrade to?
I am looking to install a PCI card that needs a minimum of a PIII 800 mhz
CPU.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers
Gavin

I wouldn't even bother thinking about the PCI card. PIII 500, or 550
is probably the closest you'll get! New/newer computers are cheap
these days, you could probably buy a PIII for < £100.

I am also stuck now with my second PC.A Williamette 1700MHZ CPU and a
Shuttle Board.Overclocking to 2 GHZ works, but i wont trust it.
The Board takes higher CPUs,but with Bus Speed of 266MHZ,it might feel
like driving with handbrake taken (e.g. i wont notice much of the
speed).

A Board/CPU/Memory/Case Solution in the P4 3GHZ Range will cost me
around 350$.
So i will upgrade anytime/soon.

the question is where are you going to get the upgrade and it will probably
cost more than a processor that is much much more modern and faster

Well, according to Upgradeware's compatibility list you can put a Tualatin
in it with an adapter. Don't know which one they tried but Tualatins go to
1.4 gig.
