Actually, it's whatever you want it to be. The key determines the edition.
While *most* keys issued to testers are for Ultimate, keys available to me
as an MSDN AA Administrator range the gamut from Home Basic through
Ultimate. One image, different installs based on key.

I can confirm this is the case with build 5744 as well. I put the wrong key
in and installed a version of Vista that did not support domain membership.
I reinstalled with the same media and put an Ultimate code in and it worked
fine.

Whatever key you used. It's the same media.

Type WINVER (enter) in the start menu search box, it will tell you what
version you have.. Mine is Home Premium 64bit.

Todd - how did you get build 5744? I have 5600. I noticed you are an MVP.
Are later builds only available to MSDN subscribers or have I missed later
builds someplace else.

Thanks!

RC2 (build 5744) was available briefly a while back to anyone
interested, and I was lucky enough to get a copy. But after about
200,000 downloads, Microsoft pulled it from general public access,
presumably so they could get useful feedback from the serious testers.
It's an improvement over RC1, although still missing a lot of stuff.

No further builds have been available to the public. RTM will be
shipped soon, so there is little reason to worry about the other
builds in between.

I'll keep RC2 installed until the final product hits the store shelves
in 2007.

I got 5744 through my MSDN subscription, but like Paul said, it was also
available publicly for a while.

Todd,

I'm a student at NJIT in the Computer Science department. NJIT is a member
of the MSDN AA. Can you tell me when the MSDN AA members will receive the
RTM version of Vista?

The picture on Vista availability via MSDN AA is a bit uncertain. When I
asked, I was told that Vista would be available via MSDN AA downloads within
"a few weeks" after it was placed on MSDN Subscriber downloads. Another MSDN
AA Administrator says he was told it would not be available through MSDN AA
until a couple of months after the retail release on January 30th, 2007.

That's a big gap. Frankly, I don't think the MSDN AA people know when it
will be available through them, and Microsoft/MSDN aren't talking. Another
thing we don't know is which editions will be available through MSDN AA.

I would suggest that you ask your department administrator to keep an eye on
the MSDN AA subscriber downloads, because it will appear there well before
it appears on ELMS.

Actually, they are a bit slow getting downloads, so I was hoping for a date
in order to push them.
