What the???????

Rafiki

I have an Active Directory domain controller set up.I also
made it a print server.

1. If a user logs in to the domain they can't install
Programs on their local machine.

2. If a user logs into the local machine they can't access
the printers.

This is a vicious circle.Could anyone pleas help me?

Thanks,
Rafiki

This sounds normal. When logged into the domain normal users will not be
able to install programmes as local admin rights are usually required for
this. When logged on locally you will not be able to access any domain
resources.
One solution would be to add users to the local administrator group on their
PC's but I would strongly recommend against this.

On the local machine goto computer management (right click
My computer, Manage) goto users and groups, add the user
or domain user group to the local administrator group,
this will give the users admin rights on the PC and allow
them to install software as well as be authenticated on
the domain for access to the printers

You need to log into the workstations as the domain
administrator, go into computer management and add their
domain accout into one of the upper groups like
administrators

I might suggest that Rafiki first try the Power Users local group. When the
domain user account is made a member of the local computers Power Users
group, that user is now able to add printers and to install *some* software.

I might also ask what software are Rafiki's users trying to install?
Hopefully not Hotbar and AOL IM and the like!

HTH,

Cary
