what size is a web page, 81/2x11?, 8x10?

I'm from the old school of graphic design where we worked on a specific page
size. What is a good size where the page will fit in the opening window
without having to scroll right to read? Am I making sense?

Mostly design for a page width of 760 pixels. 98% of all users use 600 x 800
or higher. Unfortunately, that also means a lot have wider screens. With
some people now going to the wide screen format - like HDTV - screens can be
up to 1600 wide.

So the bottom line is, there is no fixed page size.

Sure, but that school is out & and new school is open. You now talk
in pixels, and close to half the people viewing web pages are using
800x600 screens. To avoid scrolling on those, keep the width to 750
pixels. There is no set length to a web page. Am I making sense? ;-)
