What Parallel Device?

Hello all,

Every once in a while, I get a notice in the notification area down by the
clock, that my computer detects a parallel device, and wants to know if I
want to install it. I have no clue what is going on at that point.

When I go to Device Manager, I see a parallel device, but no description of
it. I don't know what it is. How can I eliminate or correct this issue?

What is plugged into the parallel port of your computer? Also known as the
printer port.

All ports I have available are filled. I have a printer installed, and it
is working fine. I have a mouse, a scanner, a keyboard, a monitor, and
nothing else. This actually happened before I did this format re-install,
too.

As I have asked, what is plugged into your parallel printer port? Just a
printer or both a printer and scanner (through an adapter)? If your computer
finds some problem with a device on the parallel port it is obvious that is
where you should start looking.

As I have said, I have a printer plugged into my parallel printer port. And
nothing else plugged into that printer port. Obviously, that is where I
started looking. I wouldn't be here asking for help if it were that
obvious.

Do you have Windows XP compatible software/drivers for the printer?

Turn off the printer. Then remove the printer using device manager. Reboot
your computer. If the computer redetects the printer and wants to install
drivers, cancel out of the driver install. Then find out if your printer
should be on or off when you start installing the printer software, using
the supplied CD. If they say to have the printer off at the beginning, you
will get a notification as when to turn on the printer.

Make certain that you allow the setup program to install ALL of the
software. Some people jump the gun and reboot before it is completely
installed. These people will continuously get a notification to install the
device.
