What is wrong with Messenger service?

nbtstat -c

NetBIOS Remote Cache Name Table

Name Type Host Address Life [sec]
------------------------------------------------------------
HARPAX <03> UNIQUE 192.168.1.100 495
net send harpax Testing
An error occurred while sending a message to HARPAX.

The message alias could not be found on the network.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2273.

Why can't it be found? Where are you looking?

The WINS server, which is running on 192.168.1.10 has an entry for "Harpax":

HARPAX [03h] Messenger 192.168.1.100 Active

So what the "gdmf he double toothpicks" is going on?

Don't know if you have tried this yet, but put the message in quotes:

net send harpax "testing"

And you should get:
The message was successfully sent to HARPAX.

Looks like after a couple of days, it fixed itself.

Nothing like the good ol' days of problems that can be diagnosed with logic.

Why couldn't it self-heal with i needed the functionality?

Not days later when i'd given up in frustration.
