What is this Folder

In the Windows directory is the folder, Software Distubution. What is this folder? Can the files in it be deleted?

This is a System Folder a simple but not complete, the contents of which are
used when you perform updates to XP.

As a rule, do not delete any files or folders in the Windows Folder or Sub
folders therein.

Should you need to get space back onto your PC, run Disk Cleanup. It's a
safe and secure way of removing any unnecessary items.

Hi David,

The %windir%\SoftwareDistribution folder was added in Windows XP Service
Pack 2. Windows Update / Automatic Updates service uses this folder, and
it's better you don't attempt to delete this folder.
