In my Windows directory is a 'Memory.DMP' file. What is this file?

PS Is there a good free program that will get rid of files on your computer that are not used by any program?
 
When a Stop error occurs, the operating system saves a memory dump file to a
file named systemroot\Memory.dmp. This dump file can further be debugged
using specialised tools.
